Safety & Emergency Protocol

Safety First. Athletes Always.

At Carlsbad Elite Athletics (CEA), the health, safety, and well-being of our athletes, families, coaches, and staff are our highest priorities.

We are committed to maintaining a safe, supervised, and supportive training environment while promoting proper technique, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness.

All athletes, parents, coaches, and visitors must follow our facility safety policies and staff instructions.

💜 1. GENERAL FACILITY SAFETY

To maintain a safe environment, CEA follows these safety standards:

  • Athletes must be registered and checked in before participating.
  • Parents or guardians must complete required enrollment forms, emergency contact information, and liability waivers.
  • Training areas are reserved for authorized athletes and staff.
  • Athletes must follow coach instructions and practice skills appropriate for their ability.
  • Tumbling, stunting, and specialty equipment must be used only under appropriate supervision.
  • All equipment must be inspected regularly and maintained in safe working condition.
  • Running, horseplay, bullying, and unsafe behavior are prohibited.
  • Emergency exits, walkways, and access to safety equipment must remain unobstructed.
  • Athletes must immediately report injuries, illness, or unsafe conditions to staff.

CEA reserves the right to restrict participation or remove anyone engaging in unsafe behavior.

  7. Determine Return to Activity: Athletes with significant injuries may be required to obtain medical clearance before returning.

Athletes with suspected head, neck, or spinal injuries should not be moved unless necessary for immediate safety or lifesaving care.

🚨 3. MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

Medical emergencies may include:

  • Loss of consciousness or unresponsiveness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Suspected cardiac arrest

  8. Document the incident and preserve relevant information.

Emergency medical treatment will not be delayed while attempting to contact a parent or guardian.

If an athlete experiences a possible concussion:

  • The athlete will be immediately removed from participation.
  • Parents or guardians will be notified.
  • Emergency services will be contacted if serious warning signs are present.
  • The athlete will not return to physical activity on the same day.
  • Return to training will require appropriate healthcare provider clearance.
  • Any return-to-sport progression must follow medical guidance.

When in doubt, the athlete sits out.

💜 6. SEIZURE & ALLERGIC REACTION RESPONSE

Seizures

If an athlete experiences a seizure, staff will:

  • Clear nearby hazards and protect the athlete from injury.
  • Avoid restraining the athlete or placing anything in their mouth.
  • Time the seizure and monitor breathing.

Severe Allergic Reactions

If an athlete shows signs of anaphylaxis, such as breathing difficulty, throat swelling, or sudden collapse:

  • Call 911 immediately.
  • Assist with prescribed emergency medication, including epinephrine, as authorized and consistent with training.
  • Follow emergency dispatcher instructions.
  • Remain with the athlete until emergency responders arrive.
  • Notify the parent or guardian.

Parents are responsible for providing CEA with relevant medical information and individualized emergency plans.

Athletes recovering from injuries, illness, concussions, or significant medical events may be required to provide medical clearance before resuming activities.

CEA reserves the right to restrict an athlete's participation when there are reasonable safety concerns.

An athlete's health and recovery will always take priority over practice, competition, or performance schedules.
